Lean-burn operation is a combustion concept used in industrial gas engines (CHP units) in which there is excess air. This increases engine efficiency and lowers raw emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx). The oxygen-rich exhaust gas requires special lean-gas catalysts (oxidation catalysts) for further cleaning.
