Explosion Protection (ATEX)

In industries with high solvent concentrations (e.g. dry cleaning or printing works), the exhaust gas mixture can be explosive. Explosion protection in accordance with the ATEX directives (Atmosphères Explosibles) must therefore be taken into account when planning the system. This includes design measures such as pressure-shock-resistant housings, bursting discs for pressure relief and electrical components that do not constitute ignition sources. In addition, modern control systems integrate monitoring of the lower explosive limit (LEL). If the pollutant concentration rises too sharply, fresh air is added or the system is switched to a safe state (bypass) in order to prevent uncontrolled ignition in the reactor. Compliance with the ATEX requirements is essential for personal safety and for the company’s property insurance.
